Edwin Sifuna: Chebukati’s lawyer is helping him eat retirement package

ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna says their tally show Raila Odinga is Kenya's next president.

Former IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Tuesday, January 31, threatened to sue opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Chebukati through lawyer Steve Ogolla served the former Prime Minister with a demand letter to submit video evidence of Wafula Chebukati’s visit to his home just before the announcement of the 2022 presidential results as claimed by Raila.

“Kindly take notice that if we do not receive the video footage demanded herein within the demand period, we shall be constrained to institute appropriate adverse but lawful proceedings against you (Raila Odinga),” Steve Ogolla said in a statement to newsrooms.

However, Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday, February 1, said Chebukati was chasing hot air as nothing would come from Chebukati’s legal adventure.

In a statement, the ODM Secretary General lauded Steve Ogolla for taking up the case adding that the move will help the former IEBC boss to spend his retirement package.

“Lawyers charge fees based on the value of the subject matter. In Steve Ogolla’s case, the subject matter is Raila Odinga. You will struggle to find a more valuable subject matter. Let Steve make that paper.

“All Steve Ogolla is doing is what lawyers do best. Helping Chebukati spend that hefty retirement package he received from the taxpayer. Save for legal fees, nothing else will come from that legal adventure,” Sifuna said in a Tweet.

Speaking during the Jacaranda Rally on Sunday, January 29, Raila said Chebukati who was in the company of the electoral agency’s commissioners Abdi Yakub Guliye and Molu Boya paid him a visit before the official announcement of presidential results.

“Chebukati is saying there are people who tried to bribe him, even his other colleagues Guliye and Molu. I want to ask them what did you come to do at my house? What did they ask me for? I have pictures and if they continue playing I will make them public,” said Raila.
