Embakasi East MP Babu Owino wants Raila sworn in as president before 2022 elections

Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili alias Babu Owino now wants ODM leader Raila Odinga to take the oath of office ahead of the much-awaited 2022 General Election.

On Wednesday, December 8, the first-term ODM lawmaker challenged Chief Justice Martha Koome to swear in former Prime Minister Raila Odinga as the fifth President as it is obvious he will win the 2022 presidential race.

“I’m humbly requesting the Chief Justice of Kenya Martha Koome to swear in Baba (Raila Odinga) in advance as the fifth president of Kenya as we wait for elections next year,” Owino wrote on his Facebook page.

While drumming up support for his party leader who is yet to announce his bid, Owino an ardent supporter of opposition chief said time is ripe for a Raila presidency stating that William Ruto will be a mere resident after next year’s General Election.

“It’s time. Baba President, Ruto resident,” Babu added.

Owino is on record for his undying support for the ODM leader to an extent of threatening those who appear to be opposed to Raila Odinga’s State House bid.

In September, a Nairobi-based journalist accused the Embakasi East legislator of threatening him for apparently being anti-Raila Odinga.

“I just received a very nasty phone call from a person who introduced themselves as (Embakasi East MP) Babu Owino on +254 711 1113..,

“This has to do with the work I do. It is not good manners to try to scare lowly journalists. Tunaomba tufanye kazi kwa Amani (Allow us to work in peace),” said senior journalist Muraya Kariuki in a tweet.

With exactly eight months to the 2022 General Election, the presidential duel appears to be narrowing down to a two-horse race between President Uhuru’s handshake partner and his estranged deputy president.

Stakes are high that Raila could easily beat his perceived main rival William Ruto to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta as he has received the support of Mt Kenya tycoons.
