Embattled Meru Governor warned senate could impeach her in case of poor defense

Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has received an impeachment motion against Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

This was after 67 Members of the Meru County Assembly (MCAs) voted on Wednesday, December 14, to remove the county boss from office over alleged abuse of office, gross misconduct, and violation of the Constitution.

As such, Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has advised the embattled governor to prepare a strong defense against her impeachment motion.

In a statement on Thursday, December 15, Cherargei, a close ally of President William Ruto urged Governor Kawira Mwangaza to stop sideshows adding that her impeachment is a political process.

“Governor Mwangaza just prepare your defense sideshows won’t help you for now! Impeachment is a political process!” Cherargei said in a Tweet.

The vocal UDA politician further had earlier clapped back at the Meru County Assembly for unanimously endorsing her impeachment.

Kawira in a long Facebook post seen by Kivumbi.co.ke argued that her tribulations were just another spiritual mission, adding that her administration was still intact.

She accused the assembly of using millions of money, sleepless nights, and a lot of energy just to confirm what God wants them to do.

“They have used millions of money. Sleepless nights. A lot of energy. Sponsored headlines. Engaging the public seriously. Connections with different types of people. Just to confirm what God wants them to do. A spiritual Mission,” Mwangaza said in response to her ouster.

In the motion tabled by Abogeta West MCA and Minority Whip in the Assembly Dennis Kiogora accused the governor of gross misconduct, incitement, bullying, vilification, and misleading campaigns against other leaders.

“Take notice that pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order No. 65 (2) I, Dennis Kiogora a Member of the County Assembly of Meru representing Abogeta West and the Minority Chief Whip proposes to move the following motion in the County Assembly of Meru,” Kiogora said.
