Tongaren MP: I better resign from politics than join UDA

by Enock Ndayala

Tongaren Member of Parliament Eseli Simiyu has dismissed the possibility of joining Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party ahead of the 2022 elections.

In an interview with Sulwe FM on Tuesday, December 7, Eseli said he would better resign from politics than join UDA, an outfit heavily liked with William Ruto.

“If UDA is the only party that is remaining in Kenya, I will resign from politics. I can’t join UDA – over my dead body,” Eseli said.

Tongaren Member of Parliament Eseli Simiyu has dismissed the possibility of joining Deputy President William Ruto’s UDA party ahead of the 2022 elections.

Eseli who last month refuted claims that he has ditched the Ford Kenya party – a party he is engaged in a battle for its control with Senator Moses Wetangula– further said he has moved on but the struggle to reclaim the party back to its legitimate owners is still on.

The former Ford Kenya Secretary-General said they will be moving to the court of appeal later in the month adding that he is not done with the One Kenya Alliance affiliate party.

“We’re going to the court of appeal on 15th December. We’re not yet done with Ford Kenya Party,” he said.

This comes at a time when some of the leaders allied to the Ford Kenya faction led by Eseli Simiyu have since decamped to other political outfits including UDA and ODM.

Last week, Bungoma Deputy Governor Ngome Kibanani officially decamped to UDA as he seeks to unseat Senator Moses Wetang’ula in the 2022 elections while Kanduyi MP Wafula Wamunyinyi has dropped the clearest hint that he would soon join ODM.

Eseli slammed Bungoma deputy governor saying he is an enemy of progress.

“Those joining Tangatanga, including (Kibanani) Ngome are the enemies of the great people of Bungoma,” he added.

In their joint statement last month, Eseli said he will be unveiling “a new vehicle” on December 14, 2021.

The faction had attempted to kick out Wetang’ula for allegedly interfering in the party’s 2017 nomination process that cost Ford Kenya parliamentary seats and failing to reconcile warring parties to eliminate friction.
