Ex-jubilee MP claims Uhuru preparing Gideon Moi for 2022 presidency

by Enock Ndayala

Ex-Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has sensationally claimed President Uhuru Kenyatta could be grooming KANU leader Gideon Moi for the 2022 presidency.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Wednesday, June 16, the politician said the move by Uhuru to prepare Moi for the country’s top job is to blame for the ongoing rift between him and his deputy president, William Ruto.

“The political war pitting the Head of State and his deputy William Ruto was because the former (Uhuru) has chosen to groom Baringo Senator Gideon Moi for the presidency,” he said.

Ruto and Moi both come from the expansive and vote-rich Rift Valley region where the deputy president commands a huge following compared to Moi.

Kabando further said President Uhuru Kenyatta’s push for the Constitution review through the Building Bridges Initiative is aimed at making him remain active in Kenyan politics.

“I do not think Uhuru plans to exit the political scene. We understand that the BBI (is to help him realize this),” the ex-Mukurweini MP Kabando Wa Kabando said.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands the BBI bill aims at amending the constitution to create several new political seats including Prime Minister and 2 deputy prime ministers as well office of a vice president.

This, proponents of BBI argued would help increase positions that can accommodate most Kenyan tribes and reduce cut-throat political competition.

Uhuru’s succession matrices have left a section of leaders speculating whom he will endorse to take over from him especially after severally saying that his endorsement will shock many.

Earlier this week, the Head of State in a meeting with Kamba leaders is believed to have urged former NASA principals to unite adding that the country could be in safer hands if they form the next government.

However,  this seems to be a mission impossible as Kalonzo Musyoka and Musalia Mudavadi have since vowed not to work with Raila again in the 2022 polls.

In April, political analyst Herman Manyora aurgued that Gideon Moi was Uhuru Kenyatta’s most preffered candidate.

It is understood that power brokers are pushing for Gideon Moi-Musalia Mudavadi paid to succeed retiring president Uhuru Kenyatta.
