Ezekiel Kemboi: Ex world champion throws weight behind Raila Odinga

Former Olympic champion Ezekiel Kemboi has endorsed Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga for the presidency.

Speaking during Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition party presidential campaigns in Deputy President William Ruto‘s backyard, the athlete said Raila is the best bet for the region.

Kemboi, who supported Raila’s State House bid in the 2013 and 2017 elections, jokingly said he had incorporated Amollo as his other name.

Amollo is another name for the 2022 presidential front-runner Raila Odinga.

“Mi nimekuja hapa kama last born wa Baba. Kwa majina naitwa Ezekiel Kemboi Amolo (I’ve come here as Baba’s last born. My name is Ezekiel Kemboi Amolo),” Kemboi

“Mkiona niko hapa, maswala ya vijana nitashughulikia. Hamtakuwa mnapiga simu. Mimi mwenyewe nitakuwa nyumbani. Mi nitawakaribisha nyumbani (When you see me here, I will deal with the issues of youth. You won’t have to call. I will be at home, I will invite you).”

Eldoret and the Rift valley is perceived to be UDA presidential candidate William Ruto’s turf but Kemboi, an ardent supporter of Raila has been rooting for his presidency.

With two Olympic titles, four world crowns to his name, three world Silvers, and three medals at the ‘Club’ as a bonus, Kemboi is the world’s steeplechaser of all time.

He has had a glittering career in athletics; in addition to his Olympic and world titles, he is the sixth-fastest runner in history, clocking a time of 7:55.76 in 2011, less than two seconds slower than Qatari athlete Saif Saaeed Shaheen’s world record of 7:53.63.
