Exiled-lawyer Miguna Miguna registers to vote in August election

Canada-based Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna has registered to take part in the voting process for the August 9, General Election.

In a statement posted on his official Twitter handle on Thursday, February 3, the outspoken lawyer said he visited the Kenya High Commission office in Canada where he registered as a voter ahead of the highly anticipated polls.

“Today, I attended Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Kenya’s Mobile Station in Toronto and made sure I am on the Voters’ Register,” Miguna said.

IEBC later confirmed that indeed Miguna Miguna was among the few Kenyans living in Canada who changed their polling station from Kenya to Canada.

“Miguna Miguna was among the many Kenyans living in Canada, who visited Kenya High Commission office and Consulates to register as a voter, change particulars or transfer their voting station from Kenya to Canada. #ECVR2022 is ongoing in Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver for 15 days,” IEBC said in a statement.

The controversial lawyer had earlier on dropped a hint that he will be vying for the country’s top seat in the August 9, General Election.

“Should Miguna Miguna vie for President in 2022? A solidarity call from a Kenyan Patriot. We are considering these calls,” said Miguna Miguna in ealier Tweet.

Two weeks ago, the former ODM leader Raila Odinga’s chief strategist vowed to renounce his Kenyan citizenship if Raila succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta who is expected to retire in August.

“If Raila Odinga becomes president of Kenya, I will sell all my property there and renounce my citizenship,” Miguna Miguna said in a Tweet seen by Kivumbi.co.ke.

Miguna, who is at the center of Raila Odinga’s controversial mock swearing-in early 2018 as the people’s president, has in the recent past indicated he prefers William Ruto to be Kenya’s next president.
