Fake academic papers threaten William Ruto’s Mt Kenya friend’s chances of going for the gubernatorial seat

by Enock Ndayala

At the beginning of 2021, one of William Ruto’s key ally in the Mt Kenya region and chief financier of the United Democratic Alliance was so sure of vying for the gubernatorial seat.
So much so it was believed the politician had the ground very well covered until a close relative revealed they had falsified academic certificates ahead of the 2022 General Election.
The relative revealed the closely guarded secret after the politician’s spouse clobbered her following some disagreement over a business deal gone sour.

She leaked the secret to the politician’s chief rival in the 2022 gubernatorial race in one of Mt Kenya’s most coveted county seats.
Upon learning the secret, the said politician’s rival decamped and join the United Democratic Alliance party, knowing very well there will be little competition in getting the party’s gubernatorial ticket in 2022.
It is said the politician scored a C- (MINUS) in form four but out of desperation to get a degree, acquired a fake diploma and fake higher diploma.
This enabled the politician to transfer the ‘fake credits’ to university and got a degree certificate which was to be used in vying for the governorship in 2022.
The politician has since gone slow and is no longer as active as before in UDA, something Kivumbi.co.ke gossip now believe is because the gubernatorial dream has been technically extinguished.
The issue of fake academic papers has put many politicians in a difficult spot with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission going hard on some of the perpetrators like Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi.
The constitution requires contestants for the gubernatorial seats in Kenya should have a university degree from a recognized University.
