Former Ladgera Member of Parliament Farah Maalim has opined that Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto would easily beat ODM leader Raila Odinga in the 2022 presidential elections.
Speaking at TV 47 on Monday, July 26, the former Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly said that even though he does not like Ruto, he expressed fears that the DP would win the next presidential election.
“If it is going to be a race between William Ruto and Raila Odinga, I do not like him (Ruto) and I will never vote for him but he will win at 10 a.m in the morning,” he said.
Maalim, who is also the Deputy Party Leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement further claimed that Raila Odinga’s support especially from the Mt Kenya region, a region that decides who becomes the president has declined in the recent past as the majority of youths from the region are subscribing to Ruto’s Bottom-up economic model.
He further said that DP Ruto has ignited a class war, banking on support by impoverished and disenfranchised groups in his tours across the GEMA region.
This approach he said that as much as it is dangerous, it is beneficial to his campaign as the majority of voters are enterprising people who seek viable opportunities.
Last week, Sirisia MP John Waluke said DP Ruto is better placed to succeed retiring President Uhuru Kenyatta in next year’s General Election.
“We give support to a presidential candidate who has the ability to make it. It is in black and white that William Ruto is going to win (the 2022 presidential race),” he said.
In one of his media interviews, the second in command ruled out his possibilities of reuniting with Raila Odinga ahead of the 2022 General Election saying the 2022 presidential race will be a battle between the Hustler and the ODM team.
“When I see Raila Odinga, I see a competitor. From where I sit, he is the most formidable competitor I have. If Raila will not be my competitor, then who will be my competitor? This is a battle between the hustler team and the ODM team,” Ruto said.
