After his address to the joint parliamentary session, President William Ruto’s wife Rachael Ruto showered her husband with love and vowed to remain a supportive wife.

Rachel reminisced how her husband started life from the bottom in 1991 when they tied the knot, something that coincided with the restoration of multiparty democracy in Kenya.

The First Lady went on to narrate how they had nothing but each other, hope, and faith.

“We had little in possession, but with the abundance of hope and faith,” she said.

She said they were staying in Nairobi’s lower-income estate of Dagoreti with a young family and would never imagine that one day ‘Bill’ -as she calls her husband, would occupy State House.

“Reminiscing those early days, having to nurse my own children and nature many others who saw a mother in me, if you told me I would become The First Lady, I would have laughed it off as a bad joke,” she said.

She however revealed that their life changed in the year 1997 when Ruto won the Eldoret North Constituency Parliament seat.

“In 1997, with a young family to raise, at 31, Bill would become the MP for Eldoret North and that move changed our family life forever. Gradually he rose through the political ranks, assuming new leadership roles,” she added.

The first lady said that even as Ruto begins his journey as the head of state, she will release him to serve Kenyans and deliver his promise to the citizens.

“With his new responsibility as the President, I don’t intend to learn selfishness now. I still want to be the Chebet he married three decades ago,” the First Lady said.
