Former KFCB boss Ezekiel Mutua joins politics, to vie for gubernatorial seat

by Enock Ndayala

The immediate former Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Films Classification Board (KFCB) Ezekiel Mutua has declared his entry into the 2022 Machakos gubernatorial race.

Popularly referred to as the ‘Moral Cop’, Mutua recently claimed that he was unfairly removed from office and that he has since challenged his ouster in a Court of law.

He argued that his ouster cannot derail his passion to serve Kenyans in other capacities stating that he is legally open to contest for any political seat apart from the Woman Rep seat as the law allows.

The immediate former Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Films Classification Board (KFCB) Ezekiel Mutua has declared his entry into the 2022 Machakos gubernatorial race.

“If the court rules otherwise I am open to many options including running for the governorship of Machakos County,” Mutua said in an interview with Citizen TV on Friday, December 3.

The ex-KFCB boss was ousted from office on August 6, 2021. Till his unceremonious exit, he was at the helm of KFCB operations for two three-year terms, since 2015.

Mutua’s hard stance on entertainment issues earned him friends and foes in equal measure. He would often criticize works posted by creatives on YouTube or other social media platforms, making new enemies each time.

His entry into the Machakos gubernatorial seat sets another titanic battle in Machakos County as key politicians position themselves to succeed Alfred Mutua, who is serving his second and final term, as governor in next year’s General Election.

Alfred Mutua, who had earlier on hinted at running for the country’s top seat in the 2022 elections recently said he was ready to shelve his ambitions for ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The Machakos gubernatorial seat has so far attracted Mutua’s deputy Francis Maliti, former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama, and Machakos Town MP Victor Munyaka.

Others in the race include Transport Chief Administrative Secretary Wavinya Ndeti, Machakos County Assembly Speaker Florence Mwangangi, Mavoko MP Patrick Makau, and lawyer Joel Mbaluka.
