Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has disclosed the reasons that made him shelve his 2022 State House bid.
The Tujibebe Wakenya party leader last week announced that he has withdrawn from the 2022 State House race to focus on recapturing his Kiambu gubernatorial seat.
In a report by the Standard, Kabogo defended his decision to jolt out of the hotly anticipated race saying he did not want to engage in a futile exercise.
“I quit because I don’t want to waste money. After listening to various stakeholders, I was informed that I should wait for the best opportune time,” Kabogo said.
Kabogo who had earlier on hinted at giving Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga a run for their money in next year’s General Election said he does not want to repeat the mistakes made by former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth and Mwalimu Abduba Dida.
“I don’t want to repeat the mistakes of Peter Kenneth and Mohammed Dida of wasting money since I don’t have some to waste,” he said.
Kabogo said he had a feeling that he would make a good president since he has the qualities but was cautious not to attempt when he knew he would not make it.
The former Kiambu governor said he is instead committed to uniting the Mt Kenya region for its posterity after next year’s General Election.
On Sunday, December 19, Kabogo said he has bowed to pressure from the electorate to contest the Kiambu gubernatorial position after listening to the ground.
“I have been listening to the people of Kiambu who want me to go for the governor’s seat. I will obey your wishes despite the fact that I was interested in the presidency,” Kabogo said during the event also attended by One Kenya Alliance principals.
