Former Raila-aide says President Ruto is Kenya’s legitimate Head of State

Opposition leader Raila Odinga, has been pressuring a section of leaders who were elected under the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition but later switched camps to resign and go face the electorates.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga last month said that he does not recognize William Ruto as the Head of State.

The former Prime Minister said that William Ruto is not supposed to be in office adding that he was only acting as an interim president.

“ I have said I don’t recognize him because he’s not supposed to be the president. He’s there, but I don’t recognize him because he was rigged in,” Raila said.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga last month said that he does not recognize William Ruto as the Head of State.

But on Thursday, February 16, Caroli Omondi, a former aide to the opposition leader asked Raila Odinga to provide evidence supporting his claims.

Omondi, who is among the nine ODM legislators who visited President William Ruto at State House termed Raila’s allegations of not recognizing Ruto’s presidency as ‘dalliance’.

Appearing to reprove his party leader on not recognizing Ruto as the Head of State, Suba South MP said such had been validated.

“The legitimacy of the president has been validated by all the competent organs of the government empowered to do so under our Constitution,” the legislator said.

The ODM legislator said he does not regret meeting President William Ruto at the State House, Nairobi.

Omondi insisted that he met the First and Second in command in his capacity as an elected leader.

“I met the President in his capacity as the Head of State and Government, as the person vested to exercise the executive authority of the Republic of Kenya, and to promote and enhance the unity of the nation,” he said.

He termed as a ‘political witch-hunt’ the move by the ODM party to summon legislators who paid a courtesy call to the President.
