Central Organization for Trade Union (COTU) boss Francis Atwoli has warned Deputy President William Ruto against insulting other leaders.

This comes barely two weeks after the deputy president indirectly referred to firebrand unionist as ‘Mzee wa nyororo.’

But speaking at Tom Mboya Labor College on Tuesday, February 1, Atwoli called out the deputy president over what he termed as a show of contempt towards other leaders.

“And please tell Ruto to stop abusing fellow leaders. He is looking down upon leaders including me who is an elder and a leader. So whenever he called for a rally in Kakamega don’t go,” Atwoli said.

The COTU Secretary-General further pleaded with Kenyans not to attend William Ruto’s rallies if he is using the same political forums to abuse other leaders.

The deputy president who has expressed ambitions in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta has been captured on several times insulting other leaders.

On Tuesday, December 14, 2021, William Ruto referred to ODM leader Raila Odinga as ‘Mganga’ loosely translated to a witch who does not only love God but does not also give a tithe to God.

“Yule rafiki yetu, haji harambee ya kanisa, hakuji shule, hakuji ya kina mama na hata sadaka peke yake hatoi (our friend does not come nor contribute to both church and school Harambees neither does he even pay tithes),” William Ruto said in an apparent reference to Raila Odinga.

On January 20, 2022, the presidential hopeful told a rally in Ukambani that Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka lost his hair while supporting the former prime minister.

“I helped Raila until he became Prime Minister, then I discovered that he doesn’t love God, so I left him. I got tired and left him for Kalonzo. Kalonzo pushed him until his hairline is receding,” Ruto said.

A week ago, Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu lashed out at former Eldoret North MP for having the tendency of insulting and belittling other leaders.

“I would like to ask William Samoei Ruto to really desist from the vulgar language that he has been using against leaders,” Ngilu told journalists.
