Francis Atwoli: Prepare for Raila Odinga as your 5th president

by Enock Ndayala
President William Ruto has appointed COTU boss Francis Atwoli’s eldest son Lukoye Atwoli to a lucrative job in new appointments.

Central Organization for Trade Union (COTU) Secretary-General Francis Atwoli has asked Kenyans to be ready for ODM leader Raila Odinga as the 5th president.

In an interview at KTN News on Wednesday, February 2, the firebrand unionist insisted that Deputy President William Ruto cannot succeed outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Prepare for Raila as your 5th president,” Atwoli said while repeating it severally in his dramatic trademark style.

Atwoli, a fierce critic of Deputy President William Ruto further assured Azimio la Umoja supporters that Raila will beat Ruto hands down in the first round.

“There will be no re-run on August 9, presidential election. Take it to the bank. That is the day you will know (Francis) Atwoli is an elder,” he said.

As the August 9, presidential race appears to be a two-horse race pitying William Ruto and former opposition leader Raila Odinga, Atwoli said that all the four presidents who have served this country have first been in the opposition before clinching to power.

“Ruto will never be the president of Kenya…where does he come from? You can’t come out of the blue skies and claim that you want to be the president of the Republic of Kenya,

“What is the credential of William Ruto? Have you listened to him every time he is talking? The same message now and then and he is bitter and Kenyans are watching,” Atwoli said.

Atwoli dismissed the huge crowd being pulled by William Ruto in his rallies adding that some of the leaders used to pull such crowds years back but they never made it to the State House.

The deputy president and the vocal unionist have in the recent past traded barbs.
