Fred Matiang’i acted like a beast in Bonchari by-elections- ODM secretary-general

ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna has accused Interior CS Fred Matiang’I of being the mastermind of police brutality experienced during the Bonchari polls.

The SG called on president Uhuru to sack the Interior CS for the injustice meted upon ODM politicians and supporters in the run-up and during the May 18 by mini polls.

“Matiangi behaves like a beast, clobbering his own people in Kisii like they are animals. Uhuru must sack Matiang’i or send him to the ministry of wildlife. He will be at home,” said the ODM secretary-general through Twitter.

ODM party at large has accused the state of interference in the Bonchari polls, saying police officers acted in favour of the Jubilee candidate.

After the poll results were announced on May 19, ODM party leader Raila Odinga also condemned the state department in charge of security for biasness in performing their duties at Kisii county.

“What we have witnessed in the by-elections in Bonchari and Juja is an abuse of police powers and an arrogant display of impunity by a few overzealous and bellicose government functionaries.

An election process is an opportunity for the voters to express their will at the ballot and not an avenue to pursue imaginary and short-legged political interests,” wrote Raila on his social media platforms.

He termed the actions by the security department as a derailment of the peace efforts made through the 2018 handshake between him and President Uhuru.

“Security forces exist to serve the people and not the interests of those out to conduct political experiments.

The peaceful co-existence post-2018 must not be taken for granted by some rogue elements wanting to confuse the handshake for an excuse to erode our hard-earned liberties! This must stop!” he added.

A number of Kenyans have joined Sifuna in advocating for Matiang’I’s sacking.
