Winnie Odinga, the last-born daughter to opposition leader Raila Odinga on Monday, December 19, was officially sworn into the East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA).

Their swearing-in comes following their election last month to represent the country at the Arusha-based parliament.

Soon after their swearing-in, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga’s wife Ida Odinga took to social media to congratulate her last-borne daughter Winnie Odinga.

Ida further wished Winnie Odinga the very best as she starts off her duties as an EALA Member of Parliament.

“A daughter is the happy memories of the past, the joyful moments of the present, and the hope and promise of the future. May the future be great for you Chogo (last borne),” Ida Odinga said in a Tweet.

Earlier former Prime Minister Raila Odinga had congratulated the nine EALA lawmakers representing Kenya at the regional parliament.

“Congratulations to the whole Kenyan EALA team and to you Chogo (my lastborn). Hongera,” Raila said.

Winnie Odinga was elected to Arusha-based parliament together with former Mombasa governor Hassan Omar, Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka, and former Kieni MP Kaninia Kega.

Others are Iman Falhada, Zipporah Kering, Godfrey Mwangi, former nominates senator David Sankok and Mombasa-based businessman-cum politician Suleiman Shahbal.

Last month, Political analyst Ahmed Hashi said that by appointing Raila’s last-born daughter to EALA, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga was training her daughter for national politics.

“By appointing their children to EALA as a training ground for them to enter national politics,” Hashi said in an interview with KTN News.
