Former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Committee (IEBC) Chairperson Wafula Chebukati was on Thursday, September 28, expected to appear before the National Dialogue Committee.

With 65 days to the General Election, Kenyans are expected to be treated to a titanic battle biting the United Democratic Alliance presidential flag bearer William Ruto against Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Both Ruto and Raila have been moving around the country as aspirants seeking the mandate of Kenyans to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Even though they had the mandate of their respective political parties, they required the clearance by Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission to officially become candidates.

Today William Ruto together with his presidential running mate Rigathi Gachugua has been cleared by the IEBC presidential returning officer Wafula Chebukati to contest for presidency on August 9.

“The application of William Ruto and running mate to participate in the August presidential election is approved. I will now present you with a certificate of registration,” Chebukati said.

Speaking after his clearance, William Ruto revealed that his Kenya Kwanza Alliance team has full confidence in the IEBC ahead of the August election.

“I’m delighted to receive the certificate that will allow me and my deputy to participate in the August polls. Chairman, we’re committed to the code of conduct we have signed… We are confident that you are up to the task and we will work with you diligently,” Ruto said.

Ruto was accompanied by Kenya Kwanza leaders including; ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen, Tharaka Nith Senator Kindiki Kithure, Kandara MP Alice Wahome, UDA secretary-general Veronica Maina, among leaders.

Speaking ahead of his clearance, the second in command warned his competitors to be ready for a bruising battle saying he was well prepared to mount a serious presidential campaign.

“You haven’t seen our campaign yet, after today you will see what you have never seen,” Ruto said.

With Ruto having gotten the nod from IEBC, the nation now awaits the clearance of Raila Odinga who is expected to face the commission on Sunday, June 5.
