Kabarak University which is associated with KANU chairman Gideon Moi blocked Deputy President William Ruto’s party UDA from conducting nomination exercises within its premises.

On Thursday, April 14 the UDA officials had arrived early in the morning to conduct the exercise but they were denied entry into the university.

Taking to the press, Ben Kigen a presiding officer said they were forced to stay outside the main entrance of the institution after the university’s management refused to allow them to use its facilities to conduct the primaries.

“We have been camping outside the gate of Kabarak University since 10 am after we were denied access to the institution,

“I went personally to plead with the management to allow us in but while talking to a human resources officer, another university official came and said no UDA party primaries would be conducted at the institution,” Kigen said.

The UDA official alleged that the university had firm instructions not to allow DP Ruto’s party to hold their primaries in the institution.

“The university management said they had firm instructions not to allow UDA primaries to be held at the institution,” Kigen said.

The refusal by the institution is strange bearing in mind that Kabarak University is registered as polling station number 173 by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and it has 662 registered voters.

Deputy President William Ruto and KANU leader Gideon Moi are known political enemies who have been angling to be the Rift Valley political kingpin.

Their enmity is well documented even at one point the Baringo senator was accused of refusing to allow DP Ruto to see the late President Daniel Moi.
