KANU chairperson Gideon Moi has warned Deputy President William Ruto not to be fooled by the large crowds appearing at his political rallies.
Addressing KANU aspirants at the party headquarters in Nairobi on Tuesday, February 15, the Baringo Senator took a swipe at William Ruto alluding that crowd does not necessarily translate to votes.
Moi argued that the deputy president has been pulling huge crowds in his rallies because the majority of those attending the rallies were after handouts.
“Unaona uko nje unaona watu wamejaa kwa kiwanja wanafikiri hizo ni kura. Na ndio tunasema kila saa tofautisha kati ya kura na kula,”
Loosely translated to “When you see huge crowds outside their, our opponents think these are votes. And yes we say every hour distinguish between voting and eating,” Gideon Moi said.
Ruo who has been traversing the country in popularizing his bottom-up economic model ahead of his titanic battle with ODM leader Raila Odinga has demonstrated his political prowess by pulling big political crowds.
Both Gideon Moi and William Ruto are fighting to have control of the vote-rich Rift Valley region ahead of the August 9, General Election.
While expressing confidence that the top seat will go to their preferred candidate, Moi ruled out working with the second in command.
He dropped the clearest hint that the country’s oldest political party KANU could soon join Raila’s Azimio la Umoja to face off with William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza coalition.
“The way things are right now, we are going to talk with other partners. Negotiations are underway and then we will agree on one presidential candidate. They have their candidate, we also have ours, but God willing we will agree on one candidate. Please be knowing that it is not over,” he stated.
