East African Spectre Limited, a company heavily linked to opposition leader Raila Odinga was on Monday, March 27, vandalized.
The company’s Security and Safety Manager Humphrey Waswa told journalists that the said vandals pelted stones at the firm’s managing directors’ office and destroyed property of unknown value.
Waswa said the goons started jetting into the company’s precincts at around 9:00 am and they thought that they were Raila’s supporters who were ready for demos only to turn to vandals.
“There were people in three cars in land cruiser V8 who started surrounding this place in the morning. Some (of the cars) had number plates and others did not have number plates. They patrolled until 9 am. At around 10 am, I saw people in motorbikes approaching the company. We thought maybe they were coming to see Mzee (Raila) but we saw them with stones which they used to break windows,” narrated Waswa.
The Odinga family is the largest shareholder of the firm with 262,500 shares. Odinga and Ida Odinga individuals own 90,000 and 50,000 shares respectively while the former Prime Minister’s brother Oburu Oginga holds 60,000 stakes.
The attack on the Odinga family-owned gas cylinder manufacturer came at around the same time as a near similar raid on former President Uhuru Kenyatta-linked Northlands City.
The group which was armed with machetes and power saws cut down rows of eucalyptus trees planted along the perimeter electric fence and carted away livestock grazing on the expansive property.
Addressing a roadside show in Nairobi, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party leader Raila Odinga condemned the two incidents terming them as ‘foolish.’
Raila without mentioning names said those who attacked his company had been sent by dark forces.
“Leo wametuma majambazi kupiga shamba ya Uhuru Kenyatta. Wametuma watu kiwanda changu, hiyo ni kitendo ya upumbavu na ujinga. (They sent criminals to invade Uhuru Kenyatta’s farm as well as my factory, that is foolishness.),” said, Odinga.
