Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said he is not in a hurry to remarry after parting ways with his second wife, Lilian Ng’ang’a.

In an interview with Daily Nation, Mutua who is eyeing the presidential seat in 2022 was confident that he can rule the country as a senior bachelor.

Governor Alfred Mutua cited the example of Kenya’s second President, Late Daniel Moi who ruled for 24 years without a wife. This was after he was divorced from Lena Moi.

“Now, I have been asked whether people should expect another First Lady for Machakos before my term ends. My answer is simple: Moi ruled this country for 24 years without a First Lady,” the Machakos Governor said.

Since breaking up with Lilian, Governor Alfred Mutua has publicly declared the two are still good friends.

The ex-lovers even hanged out together during Alfred Mutua’s birthday party held at the OIe Sereni Hotel on August 22.

The appearance of Lilian at the birthday party sparked speculations that the couple was faking their split to have the attention of Kenyans.

However, the Machakos Governor has dismissed these claims, saying that they have just chosen peace.

“While her appearance at the party got people thinking that we were faking our break-up, we weren’t. We are living our lives,” he said.

When announcing the break up, Lilian said that she ceases to be the First Lady of Machakos County.

Governor Alfred Mutua also had shared properties such as the A&L(initials for Alfred and Lilian) Hotel that is located in Machakos County.

But they intend to keep their business even after the break up.

“But why would I change the name now? This is still our hotel. It is our baby. When parents divorce, do they deny their babies the right to use the names on the birth certificates?” he posed.

Lilian Ng’ang’a was Alfred Mutua’s second wife.

He divorced his first wife Josephine Thitu, whom he married in 2000 and sired 3 children with her.
