Kajiado Governor Joseph Ole Lenku has allegedly fired county officials linked to Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto.

On Tuesday, September 14, the governor fired County Executive Committee (CEC) for Public Service, Social Services, Administration, and Inspectorate Services Samuel Seki.

The Jubilee county boss, a staunch defender of President Uhuru Kenyatta, and his handshake counterpart Raila Odinga replaced Samuel Seki with Gender, Tourism, and Wildlife CEC Member Alais Kisota in an acting capacity.

“The changes take place with immediate effect,” governor Ole Lenku said as quoted by People Daily Digital.

Although the main reason for Samuel Seki’s dismissal remains a mystery, it is believed that his dismissal was politically motivated.

Seki‘s dismissal come barely a day after he declared his interests for the Kajiado Senatorial seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket, a party heavily linked to deputy president William Ruto.

This comes at a time the 2022 horses Raila Odinga and William Ruto are scrambling to have control of the Maa community ahead of the crucial 2022 presidential election.

On Monday, September 13, the former Prime Minister met with members of the Maa community from Kajiado, Narok, and Samburu counties at a hotel in Rongai, Kajiado North constituency.

His meeting came just a day after the deputy president was in Kitengela to seek the support of the Maa community.

The ODM leader seemed to have won big after the Maa community top guns backed his bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

A number of high-profile Maasai leaders declared their support for Raila’s presidency promising to rally the community behind the opposition leader during next year’s polls.

Those who pledged to drum up support for the opposition chief include former National Assembly Speaker Francis ole Kaparo and Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku.

While announcing his decision to rally support behind Raila Odinga, former Nationals Assembly Speaker said the community is safer in the hands of the ODM boss.

“Even if I am not a member of ODM or Jubilee parties, let me tell you the truth, the man (Raila) cannot harm the Maasai community,” Kaparo said.
