Governor Kivutha Kibwana reveals Raila was to support Kalonzo only if NASA won 2017 elections

Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana has revealed that ODM leader Raila Odinga was to support Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka’s 2022 presidential bid if NASA won in 2017.

Kivutha, in a scathing attack against Kalonzo Musyoka’s presidential journey, said he witnessed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed by NASA principals which clearly stated the condition under which Raila was to endorse Kalonzo’s for the 2022 presidency.

“I witnessed an agreement between Raila Odinga and Stephen Kalonzo detailing that Raila would support Kalonzo in 2022 if NASA won in 2017 and it was intact until 2022,” Kibwana said through twitter.

He further argued that the MoU that was signed by the four NASA principals (Raila Odinga, Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi and Moses Wetang’ula) stated that it was not mandatory for Raila to support Kalonzo but would only support one of the three remaining principals.

“Previously, the NASA chiefs had signed a similar MOU: Raila would support one under NASA if he won,” Kivutha added.

However, Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo junior differed with hi governor, saying also read the document and did not see the word ‘2017 victory’ as a precondition for Raila to support Kalonzo,

“I read the said document. I did not see the word victory. Perhaps it is time (Makau) Mutua made this document public. The two of you know about parole evidence on written documents,” he said.

Kalonzo Musyoka has been in the recent past been pushing Raila Odinga to honour the 2017 pre-election pact where the former Prime Minister was to support his (Kalonzo) presidential ambition in 2022.

Speaking in Gatanga on June 20, Kalonzo Musyoka insisted on Raila Odinga to honouring the agreement among NASA principals.

“I will continue barking until the leaders learn to respect and honour any agreements made either in public or in private. There must be integrity in politics and leaders must learn to stick to their promises without shifting goals,” he said.

This was in response to Raila’s sentiment where he asked Kalonzo to stop yapping after the Wiper leader said in an interview with a local TV station that he will rather retire than support the ODM leader’s presidential ambition.

“Some people are barking that they will not support Raila, let them relax, I have not declared that I will vie neither have I asked for their support,” he said.

However, if what Kivutha is saying is true, then Raila will have no option but to support Kalonzo Musyoka since according to him, he won both 2013 and 2017 and he even went ahead to swear himself in as the ‘People’s President’.
