‘Handshake?’ Ex-MP says Raila, President Ruto holding secret talks

by Enock Ndayala
Political fanatic Nuru Okanga has warned opposition leader Raila Odinga against associating himself with President William Ruto.

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament Kabando wa Kabando now claims that President William Ruto and opposition leader Raila Odinga are in secret talks to work together.

In a series of Tweets on Monday, February 20, the politician stated that the former Prime Minister was on his way to power in Kenya Kwanza government.

“Making this observation without fear, favour, bias, or prejudice: Ruto is baiting Azimio while Raila is on his way to Parliament via Ruto’s sly constitutional amendments. Ruto and Raila in the plot; secret talks. High voltage palace conspiracy against gullible, suffering Kenyans,” Kabando wa Kabando said.

Kivumbi.co.ke understands that in December 2022, the Head of State wrote to the National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula requesting the house to institute a raft of constitutional amendments to create the office of the official opposition leader.

In his letter, the president argued that the shift to the presidential System and the exclusion of presidential candidates from simultaneously contesting parliamentary seats excluded the minority side of the legislature.

President Ruto said empowering the opposition will ensure public resources are utilized properly by the government.

“I am a great believer in an accountable government. That is why we want our oversight institutions, Parliament and the Opposition to be empowered so that they can ensure that public resources are used properly and appropriately so that we can run an accountable administration because an accountable administration is the one that will bring transformation to the Republic of Kenya,” President Ruto said.

If Ruto will reach a consensus to work with Raila Odinga in the new plan, then this will make Raila the king of handshakes having worked with three of the previous government.

Raila who has unsuccessfully vied for the country’s top seat has worked with late President Daniel Moi, his successor Mwai Kibaki and now Rtd President Uhuru Kenyatta.
