House help steals KSh 4 million from top ministry of treasury employee’s house

Police have launched investigations into an incident in which Treasury Chief Administrative Secretary (CAS) Nelson Gaichuihe lost KSh 4 million in cash.

It is reported that the Treasury employee’s 45-year-old house-help Mwelu Muinde is responsible for the theft in which a further KSh 500,000 worth of jewelry went missing.

According to a police report filed at Hardy police station in Nairobi and seen by Kivumbi.co.ke, the househelp left with the valuables immediately after her boss’s wife left for work.

“Upon return from work at around 1500hrs she found the house girl missing and upon checking in the house, she realized that her jewelry worth KSh 500,000 and cash KSh 4 million which had been placed on top of their wardrobe by her husband missing as well,” a police report read in part.

The househelp who is highly suspected to have stolen the items was last captured by Safaricom mobile signal at Rongai where her phone is suspected to have been switched off at around 1000hrs.

The incident has however left Kenyans wondering why the senior Treasury employee had stashed whooping KSh 4 million cash money in his house instead of saving the money in a bank account which many presumed to be safe.

It is suspected that the treasury employee could have stolen the cash from the government docket and that he decided to keep the money in cash to evade being suspected of stealing government funds.
