IEBC takes action after Moses Kuria said they helped Uhuru rig elections

by Enock Ndayala

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to investigate Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria for claiming he and others helped President Uhuru Kenyatta rig elections.

Speaking during the swearing-in of the newly appointed CEO Marjan Hussein on Wednesday, March 16, the commission’s chair Wafula Chebukati said Kuria will be summoned after IEBC concludes investigations into the claims.

“We are aware of what he said but people always have their versions of what they said. So our investigations team is probing before we summon him,” Chebukati said.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is set to investigate Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria for claiming they helped President Uhuru Kenyatta rig elections.

Speaking during the United democratic Aliance National Delegates Convention, the vocal legislator claimed that he and other political leaders whom he did not name helped President Uhuru Kenyatta secure victory in the previous elections through dubious means.

In the controversial utterances, the outspoken legislator alleged that him together with others who are now allied to DP Ruto’s camp guarded President Kenyatta’s votes and also rigged the election in his favor.

“Kuna wengine wanasema ati kura ya mlima itagawanywa; mheshimiwa Ann Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi…Sisi ndio tulikuwa tukishikilia Uhuru kura, na sisi ndio tulikuwa tunamuibia kura,” Kuria stated.

Loosely translates to: “Some people are saying that the Mt Kenya votes will be divided; Governor Ann Waiguru, Rigathi Gachagua, Muthomi Njuki, Kimani Ichung’wa, Senator Linturi, Alice Wahome, Faith Gitau, Kimani wa Matangi… we are the ones who protected Uhuru’s votes and we are the one who rigged for him votes.”

The Jubilee party through its vice-chairman David Murathe has since refuted Kuria’s controversial utterances calling for immediate arrest and prosecution of the legislator.

“If the IEBC establishes there was rigging, those are crimes which people should be prosecuted. If he has any evidence that we rigged or they rigged or that there was rigging, he should be in jail,” Murathe said.
