“Its war”: Raila supporters advised against sex on eve of voting

by Enock Ndayala
Deputy President William Ruto has condemned the attack on the ODM leader Raila Odinga that happened in Eldoret.

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party flag bearer Raila Odinga will be facing off with Deputy President William Ruto of the UDA party in the August 9, presidential election.

Raila will be giving his fifth and probably the last attempt due to his advancing age while his closest rival will be giving his first attempt at the presidency.

A section of elders from Uriri Migori County has likened the August 9, presidential duel pitying the two political heavyweights to a war.

In a briefing on Thursday, July 28, the elders advised men, especially married men, to avoid intimacy on the eve of August 9.

Sex before a fight, they believe, doesn’t weaken a fighter physically, it weakens them mentally.

The elders advised all the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party supporters to avoid the exercise so as to be fresh as they face off with their Kenya Kwanza Alliance counterparts.

“Those who have wives tunaenda kwa vita. Usilale na bibi (we are going to war. Don’t sleep with your wife). Be fresh. We want you to be as fresh as possible. Don’t sleep near your wives because we want you to move out as early as possible,” the elders said.

This comes just days after Raila Odinga asked women to deny their lover’s conjugal rights until his presidential victory is announced.

Speaking during a series of campaign rallies in Nairobi, the former Prime Minister urged women to remain awake until the presidential election results are announced.

He advised his foot soldiers, not to slumber stating that they will hand his bitter challenger William Ruto an easy win if they sleep.

“If you sleep, you will have voted for my opponents, there should be no sleeping until the results are announced. Ladies do not allow any man to enter near you until they announce my victory,” Raila said.
