Jared Okello: Ruto wants to be everlasting president of Kenya

by Enock Ndayala

Nyando MP Jared Okello has sensationally alleged that Kenya’s President William Ruto is working hard to rule beyond 2032.

Speaking during an interview on Citizen TV, the ODM legislator read mischieve in President Ruto’s close friendship with his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni.

He opined that just like Museveni who has ruled Uganda for decades by tempering with the Constitution, Ruto was also working to amend the constitution in his favor.

“Ruto’s friend in the whole world is called Yoweri Museveni, the everlasting president of Uganda who has maintained his seat by tempering with Uganda’s constitution. This is the same thing Ruto is doing so that he can be the everlasting President of Kenya,” Okello said on Monday, February 13.

He further faulted the Head of State for abusing the pulpit.

Okello said by responding to Raila’s demand in church, President William Ruto was engaging in ‘bad political hygiene.’

“I think we are engaging a very bad political hygiene, especially within the church. Kenya Kwanza use churches to respond to what Raila says in public rallies,” he added.

Okello’s comments come at a time when President William Ruto has proposed key amendments to the Constitution enacted in 2010.

For instance, the First in Command has proposed the creation of an office of the official leader of the opposition, to cure what he says was a constitutional shortfall on the full post-election fate of the minority side.

To further enhance Parliamentary oversight of the Executive, the President proposes amendments to the Parliamentary standing orders to facilitate the participation of Cabinet Secretaries or Chief Administrative Secretaries in Parliamentary proceedings, and enable them to respond to questions posed by Members of Parliament in their capacity as the people’s representatives and in the execution of their oversight roles.
