“Jiheshimu”: Ruto hits back at President Uhuru for attacking him

by Enock Ndayala

The political differences between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto is taking a new twist just days to the highly anticipated General Election.

The Head of State has not spared his deputy William Ruto in his recent addresses to the nation while launching several projects across the country.

On Wednesday, July 27, the outgoing president took a swipe at the UDA presidential candidate accusing him of what he termed as “spreading blatant lies” to Kenyans.

The outgoing Head of State said his deputy has been peddling lies just so he can gain political mileage in his epic political battle with ODM leader Raila Odinga.

For instance, President Uhuru yesterday -while in Nakuru- blamed Ruto’s ‘lies’ on the collapse of his (President Uhuru) and ODM leader Raila Odinga’s plan to amend Kenya’s 2010 constitution through the famous Building Bridges Initiative (BBI).

At the same event, President Uhuru said while he does not hate his deputy, he hates a liar which many considered an indirect way of calling Ruto a liar.

But in what can be considered as a quick rejoinder, Ruto, while on the campaign trail in Meru County asked his boss to keep off the August 9, presidential election contest.

Ruto who spoke on Thursday, July 28, asked his boss to retire peacefully and leave him to square it out with Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party flag bearer.

“President (Uhuru) please, be a decent human being. Kuwa muungwana kidogo. Sisi ndio tulikusaidia (we are the ones who helped you become president). Tulikufanyia campaign (we campaigned for you). Wacha kutugombanisha (stop being mad at us). Hatushindani na wewe (we are not competing against you), unagombana na sisi over what?” He posed.

Ruto said he supported the first in command unconditionally and he should let him face off with his main challenger (Raila Odinga) in the 2022 presidential election Raila Odinga.

“The president is trying to engage me. I am telling him he is not competing with me. When he needed me to stand with him, I stood with him and supported him in 2013 and 2017. Kindly leave me alone to face Raila so that I can trounce him,” William Ruto said.

Uhuru, who was speaking when he launched the revitalized 217km Nakuru – Kisumu Meter Gauge Railway (MGR) and the Nakuru central railway station, accused his deputy of being insincere while making his promises to voters.
