Political financier Jimi Wanjigi explained why he has been opening ODM offices in the country without the permission of Party leadership, a move that had caused disquiet in the orange party.

Speaking at Chungwa House, the party’s national headquarters, on Friday, August 26, Wanjigi said he is determined to grow ODM’s membership across the country and that is why he has been opening grassroot office ODM offices countrywide.

According to the billionaire businessman, he has not been opening parallel offices, but rather new party offices in regions where none existed.

“We are opening offices where we have found none. Our aim is membership drive. Is that bad? We want to add more members on top of the 2.6 Million that ODM already has. We are popularising the Party in as many areas as we can,” Wanjigi said.

At the same venue, Jimi Wanjigi also said that he wants to take over the party leadership from Raila Odinga.

“I have come to officially announce that we want this seat of ODM Party leader,” he said.

The Businessman-cum-politician also asked ODM leadership to reopen applications for presidential aspirants seeking the ODM ticket for next year’s General Election.

“We would want the party to consider reopening applications for the presidential aspirants. We are expecting that you will hear our plea and open another window to allow us to make applications,” said Jimi Wanjigi.
