Jimmy Kibaki, the son of the late former President Mwai Kibaki has hinted at vying for Kenya’s presidency in the future.

Speaking at Nyayo Stadium on Friday, April 29 during the requiem mass for the late president Jimmy said the death of his father has given him thoughts of following in his footsteps.

“When I was walking into parliament buildings where Mzee was lying-in-state on Tuesday I was saluted by so many military officers I started thinking wow this is what it is all about you know I can kind of get used to this maybe I’ll give it a try but…,”’ Jimmy Kibaki said.

Sentiment by Jimmy came two days after he said that he will make public his political decision after the burial of his father.

“I have been under pressure for the last 5 years to join politics, especially by people who miss ‘mzee’ in politics. Now that I am the political face of the family I might consider joining politics. We will discuss after the sendoff maybe next week we will have a detailed sit-down,” he told NTV reporter Kennedy Murithi on Wednesday, April 27.

Even though Jimmy has maintained a low political profile, the late Kibaki’s son is an official The New Democrats (TND) party.

Recently he has been holding talks with the Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka in what wa construed as him joining the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition.

In his eulogy, Jimmy revealed how the late Kiba was always proud of Uhuru and would pay attention to his remarks on television.

“When watching television, sometimes he would tell me, that man spoke for 10 minutes but has not told us anything. He would then doze off.

“But when Uhuru spoke, he would sit upright and listen very keenly and then turn to me and say good friend,” Jimmy said.
