Jimmy Kibaki speaks after claims he’s working with William Ruto

by Enock Ndayala

Late President Mwai Kibaki‘s son Jimmy Kibaki has dismissed claims that he is supporting Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential bid.

This was after reports emerged from a Twitter account believed to be that of Kenya’s third President Mwai Kibaki’s son claiming that Jimmy Kibaki is working with William Ruto.

“After consideration and consultation with Nyeri residents, I would possibly run for the Nyeri Senate seat. On Saturday, May 14 I would unveil my Party and launch my bid. Mount Kenya needs vibrant and vocal leaders. Additionally, our support for Kenya Kwanza is inevitable,” read the Tweet.

But speaking to The Star on Friday, May 13, Jimmy Kibaki confirmed that he is not allied to the Kenya Kwanza coalition, led by the deputy president.

“It has come to my attention that there are several fake Twitter accounts impersonating me, and purporting to imply that I support the Kenya Kwanza political formation,

“I would like to take this opportunity to inform Kenyans that they should ignore all fake and preposterous announcements emanating from these delinquent imposters,” Jimmy said.

Jimmy further clarified that the relationship between the Kibaki and Kenyatta families has been alive for a long time to have anyone thinking he is supporting the deputy president.

“The 62-year relationship between the Kenyatta and Kibaki families will know that my loyalty to President Uhuru Kenyatta is sacrosanct, and our 50-year-old friendship endures,” he added.

The former Jubilee deputy party leader has for a while been seen antagonising President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Anyone who is believed to be a friend to William Ruto is ostensibly an enemy of the President since the senior-most Jubilee government officials appear not to be reading from the same script since the advent of the famous handshake between Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
