Jimmy Wanjigi demands changes in ODM leadership as he starts the Nyanza tour

by Enock Ndayala

ODM presidential aspirant Jimmy Wanjigi has demanded immediate changes to the ODM party leadership as he officially starts his four-day tour of Raila Odinga’s Nyanza region political bastion.

Speaking on Thursday, September 16, at Kisumu International Airport, Wanjigi who is set to tour Kisumu, Migori, Siaya, and Homa Bay counties accused some ODM party officials of fighting democracy within the party.

According to Wanjigi, there are some party officials who are rattled by his entrance into the race for the ODM presidential ticket as well as the changes he has been demanding in the party.

“We are not going to allow a few officials to undermine the democratic basis and foundation of this party. And if they play with us, they will see. We will sweep them all away completely,” Wanjigi said in reference to a section of ODM party officials.

The businessman-cum-politician further accused some unnamed party officials of frustrating his efforts to get into the party and give the former Prime Minister a run for his money as they both seek to be ODM flag bearers ahead of the 2022 presidential election.

While insisting on changes in ODM party, Wanjigi reiterated that the Raila Odinga-led party must uphold democracy and guarantee presidential aspirants a fair playground.

“This party must embrace the spirit in which it was founded. The spirit of Democracy,” he said.

While a section of ODM officials in the Nyanza region insisting that they were not aware of Wanjigi’s tour to the region, the businessman said Kenya is a democratic country and that he does not require an official invite from them to tour the region.

“Do I need to ask for an invitation …I don’t understand. This is a free republic,” Wanjigi said.
