Jimmy Wanjigi: Raila Odinga can never be Kenya’s president

by Enock Ndayala

Presidential hopeful Jimmy Wanjigi has sensationally claimed that ODM leader Raila Odinga will never be Kenya’s president.

The businessman turned politician said while time is ripe for the Orange party to ascend to power, he does not see the party leader taking the country to Canaan.

Wanjigi who was speaking in Homa Bay on Sunday, February 13, where he was coronated as a Luo elder further argued that Raila lacks the support he enjoyed when he ran for the presidency under the National Super Alliance (NASA) coalition.

“The biggest problem I have with my party leader (Raila) is that I do not see his path to power and I believe that this is the time ODM should get to power,” Wanjigi said.

He said the former prime minister who in December announced that he will be giving his fifth stab at the presidency has lost the massive support he had in the last General Election.

This was after two of the NASA co-principals Musalia Mudavadi of ANC and his Ford Kenya counterpart Moses Wetang’ula recently shifted their allegiance to Deputy President William Ruto who is perceived to be Raila’s formidable competitor.

The ODM presidential ticket contender further claimed that Raila does not have the support of the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, a voting bloc that has for decades usually determined who the president becomes.

“For Raila to climb Mt Kenya is a tall order. In two election cycles, he has been an enemy. In the last elections, I was here (Nyanza region) and I am not an enemy. The person (President Uhuru Kenyatta) trying to help him lift him the mountain in the head of Jubilee, and the head of Jubilee cannot even pull a large crowd here in Nyanza,” he said.
