Jimmy Wanjigi to leave ODM should Raila be given direct ticket

Businessman Jimmy Wanjigi has said he is ready to leave ODM party should his main opponent, Raila Odinga be given a direct presidential ticket.

In a press address on Sunday, November 5, Wanjigi said he is in a better position to represent the party’s interests than its leader Raila Odinga.

He noted that he has confidence that the party will hold fair and transparent primaries to identify the presidential flagbearer.

“It will hurt my opponent more than me. There are people who are supporting my candidature and we shall chart a way forward from there.

“I believe in ODM, I like the party very much and I am hopeful that it will stand by the tenants of its constitution,” Wanjigi stated.

While speaking about his possibility to leave ODM, Wanjigi also clarified that he has not been invited to the grand Azimio La Umoja rally on December 10, where Odinga is expected to unveil his presidential manifesto.

“I have not been invited. I do not know what it is because it is not an ODM affair. I hear it is Azimio la Umoja and I have not been part of it,” he said.

His resolution on exiting ODM comes after Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka told him to brace himself for the same, since ODM might deny him a chance to be their presidential flagbearer.

“You know what happened in 2007; we parted ways acrimoniously over the running of the party. So brace yourself for tough times, the ride will not be smooth,” Kalonzo said.

Now, Wanjigi says he is open to forming an alliance with Kalonzo Musyoka since he is a like minded person.

“Steve is my very good friend. We have a long history together. We will team up with like-minded people all over this country especially those who understand that we need economic liberation of this country,” he said in the press address on Sunday.
