The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) chairman further said, due to Raila's quenchless thirst for power, his die-hard supporters lost their lives and properties while others have been subjected to permanent disability

UDA chairperson Johnson Muthama has said that ODM leader Raila Odinga needs to retire from active politics even as the 2022 presidential race gains momentum.

The former Machakos Senator said Raila is a selfish individual who failed to address the challenges the people of Kibra are currently facing despite being one of the longest-serving MPs of the constituency.

While calling for Odinga’s retirement to pave way for the Deputy President William Ruto, Muthama further accused the former Prime Minister of rewarding cronyism at the expense of his supporters.

UDA chairperson Johnson Muthama has said that ODM leader Raila Odinga needs to retire from active politics even as the 2022 presidential race gains momentum.

“Raila Odinga should just retire and pave way for William Ruto who has a plan to deal with such situations through his bottom-up economic model,” Muthama said in a Tweet.

The UDA chairman further wondered how Raila will transform the economic situation of the country yet he failed as the longest-serving Member of Parliament for Lang’ata Constituency to transform Kibra, one of Africa’s biggest slums.

“Despite being his political bedroom, the people (of Kibra) are still living in deplorable conditions where basic amenities like toilets and safe water for domestic use remain a pipe dream,” he added.

Raila Odinga was MP for Lang’ata consistency from 1992-2013 before it was broken into two to form the now Kibra as well as Lang’ata constituencies.

Kibra constituency happens to be home to one of Africa’s biggest slums, infamous for poverty tourism as it is located barely 20 kilometers from Nairobi city.

The ODM leader has always received criticism for doing little to improve the situation in the slum, given most of his supporters in the city live there.

Odinga who is considered to be President Uhuru’s choice recently dismissed claims that he is too old to lead the country as the race to the house on the hills

“Some people say Raila is already old and can easily be wrestled down in a battle. Am I old?” posed Raila.

“It is unfortunate that some people are saying Raila is too old to climb Mt Kenya in the quest for votes. What they don’t know is that I have a lot of energy and with strong donkeys for climbing the mountain,” said Raila.
