Johnson Sakaja speaks after suggestions he never graduated from University

by Enock Ndayala

On Thursday, June 2, reports circulated online claiming that Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja did not graduate from the University of Nairobi (UoN).

In the letter that is purported to have been generated by the institution’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor in charge of academics, Sakaja -who is said to hold a Degree in Actuarial Science from the University of Nairobi, may not have even completed his degree program.

The letter, which was first shared by blogger Robert Alai, a staunch supporter of Raila Odinga is alleged to have been written in response to a query from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations.

This prompted the lawmaker who is eying the Nairobi gubernatorial seat on a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket in this year’s elections to come clean on his academic credentials.

Sakaja in an exclusive interview with Tuko.co.ke dismissed the letter terming it as “cheap propaganda.”

He accused his competitors of peddling fake documents to tarnish his integrity and credibility as a leader.

“Do I look like someone who has not gone to school? Ignore the propaganda being peddled around. I have more academic credentials than what they are looking for,” said the lawmaker.

The seemingly fake letter also shows the soft-spoken politician who was admitted to the University of Nairobi but dropped out and never resumed his studies.

“Your letter to Academic Registrar dated Monday, May 30, 2022. The attached copies of the academic transcripts are incomplete and not signed by officers of this university,

“Records available indicate that he (Johnson Sakaja) did not complete his studies. There is no record of graduation,” read the letter in part.

This comes barely days after Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala displayed his academic credential online to discredit the naysayers who had cast doubts on his intellectual capabilities.
