Jubilee delegates invited to Raila Odinga’s presidential launch

by Enock Ndayala
Deputy President William Ruto blasted President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga for running down the economy.

At least 7,000 Jubilee delegates have been invited to attend ODM leader Raila Odinga’s presidential launch on Friday, December 10, the opposition party has confirmed.

Addressing at least 200 ODM and Jubilee party delegates from Nairobi at Convent Hotel on Monday, December 6, the former Prime Minister said his presidential launch will have delegates drawn from each of the country’s 1450 wards with ODM and Jubilee producing at least five delegates each.

“We want delegates from each ward; ODM and Jubilee will produce Jubilee five delegates from each of the 1450 wards across the country,” Raila Odinga said.

According to ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohammed, the Azimio la Umoja fete is not an Orange party event but an international occasion stating that delegates from across the continent and beyond will attend.

“The Friday’s meeting is not an ODM meeting. It is a meeting of the Azimio la Umoja. It’s a major event. Those to attend will come from across the globe, Africa and Kenya. The meeting is for everybody,” Suna East MP Junet Mohammed said.

Raila further disclosed that he will heed the calls by Kenyans who have expressed their wish that he gets on the ballot.

“I have asked Kenyans if I should proceed and they have been asserting. I will now talk on Friday and I want all Kenyans to converge at Kasarani and make it full to capacity for the big declaration,” Raila said.

ODM party Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna said more than 60,000 delegates are expected to attend the event where the ruling party will formalize its coalition pact with the opposition party.

It is also expected that the meeting will see the Jubilee and ODM delegates name President Uhuru’s handshake partner as the preferred 2022 presidential flag bearer.

Speculations are that President Uhuru Kenyatta will also attend the meeting.

Others expected to attend include the One Kenya Alliance principals Musalia Mudavadi (ANC), Kalonzo Musyoka (Wiper), Gideon Moi (Kanu), and Moses Wetang’ula (Ford Kenya).
