Jubilee MP warns DP Ruto against underestimating President Uhuru’s influence in Mt Kenya

Nyeri Town MP Ngujiri Wambugu has warned Deputy President William Ruto against underestimating Uhuru’s influence in the political decisions of Mt Kenya voters.

Speaking in an interview on KTN News, the Jubilee MP argued that President Uhuru Kenyatta is still considered the Mt Kenya political kingpin and should not be belittled.

“Whether you like him or not, President Uhuru is a critical factor in how the politics of our region (Mt Kenya) will go. I have seen the Deputy President William Ruto’s allies attacking and undermining the president, it is really not wise,” Wambugu said.

The MP added that apart from Uhuru’s influence, stakeholders such as business communities have a big say in the decision that the Mt Kenya voters will make in 2022.

“The DP seems not to have learned from history, anyone who has analysed history realises that the region is influenced by certain stakeholders. Business communities and religious leaders have a way of influencing the mass,” he explained.

Additionally, Ngujiri Wambugu argued that as William Ruto ignores Uhuru and other key players in the region, his opponent Raila Odinga has mastered the art of keeping them close.

“That doesn’t mean that they are going to give him votes, but they advise him correctly on the issues that the region has fears and expectations.

By taking this approach, Wambugu says that Raila Odinga will have a solid message when the time comes to meet the electorates on the ground.

The Nyeri Town MP was among a group of Jubilee MPs who held a meeting with Raila Odinga and President Uhuru on September 30.

In the meeting, the MPs discussed Raila Odinga’s plans of scaling the mountain.

“He’s looking for partners from our region. Not followers. And he will engage the region with humility. Not through force or intimidation,” Wambugu said after the meeting with Raila.
