Jubilee MPs warn Kiambaa voters against ‘faceless’ UDA party ahead of by-election

by Enock Ndayala

Jubilee MPs led by Peter Mwathi (Limuru) and his Nyeri Town counterpart Ngunjiri Wambugu have warned voters in the Kiambaa constituency against voting for UDA candidate ahead of the much-anticipated by-election saying Ruto linked outfit is faceless.

Speaking in Muchatha while campaigning for Jubilee candidate Kariri Njama on Tuesday, June 29, Mwathi further warned voters that they will confine themselves to the opposition if they vote in favor of UDA candidate Njuguna Wanjiku.

“UDA is a faceless party which is using the Mt Kenya region and specifically Kiambaa as its laboratory to test and weigh its popularity,” Mwathi said.

While confirming that Jubilee and ODM have inched closer to inking a pre-election pact ahead of the 2022 General Election, Mwathi rubbished claims that the ruling outfit has been swallowed by Raila’s ODM party.

“Jubilee party is a national party with elected leaders in almost all the 47 counties and it is still strong not only here but across the country,” he said as quoted by People Daily newspaper.

While echoing Mwathi’s call, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu slammed claims by some UDA sympathisers that their party is in government saying the ruling outfit terminated its pact with UDA a few months ago.

“UDA is not in government as its proponents are purporting. You should elect a Jubilee MP who can easily complete all the projects the late Paul Koinange had initiated,” Ngunjiri said.

Kiambaa Parliamentary seat fell vacant following the demise of MP Paul Koinange who succumbed to Covid-19 related complications on March 31.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chair Wafula Chebukati in a Gazette notice said the by-election will be held on 15 July 2021.
