Jubilee party declines to admit NYS scandal suspect Anne Ngirita over tainted character

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party has declined to admit the National Youth Service (NYS) suspect Anne Ngirita.

The move by the ruling outfit comes barely hours after Ngirita, one of the main suspects in the NYS dumped the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party for the Jubilee party.

Ngirita, who was previously a member of the UDA, a party heavily associated with Deputy President William Ruto switched to the ruling party, Jubilee on Tuesday, February 15.

The Nakuru Woman Rep hopeful said she only joined UDA out of peer pressure and is ready to be a member of Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja movement, in which the Jubilee party is a constituent party.

“Yes nilikua kwa chama ya UDA but nilitoka mimi mwenyewe. Nilitoka kwa sababu Baba (Raila) and Uhuru walisema turudi nyumbani nikaona nilikua nimepotea. Ilikua out of peer pressure,

“Yes I was in the UDA party but I left on my own. I left because Baba (Raila Odinga) and President Uhuru said let’s go home and I realized that I was lost. I had joined UDA out of peer pressure,’’ she said.

But speaking in Nakuru while receiving defectors, the Jubilee Nakuru branch boss Karimi Waiganjo said while the ruling outfit is open to receiving new members ahead of the General Election, the party said it will not clear the graft suspect to vie on the Jubilee ticket until she presents a clearance certificate from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s party further stated that Ngirita must clear with the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) as well as the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) for her to seek the party’s ticket in the August 9, General Election.

In the September 2015 multi-million-shilling NYS graft scandal, she is accused of receiving at least KSh 60 million.

But Anne Ngirita, 32, says the NYS scandal matter “is behind me now”.
