Jubilee party wants William Ruto’s party deregistered.

by Amos Khaemba

Jubilee party led by President Uhuru Kenyatta has called for the deregistration of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) led by DP William Ruto for breaching its database.

The party has written to the Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu accusing Ruto’s party of stealing 2 million membership data.

In an interview with The Saturday Nation, Jubilee Deputy Secretary-General Joshua Kutuny revealed that the party had called upon the Nderitu to audit the UDA membership list with the aim of deregistering it if found culpable of theft of crucial data.

“We are dealing with crooks. They did not build any data. What they are using was lifted from the Jubilee Centre,” Kutuny said.

The Cherang’anyi lawmaker added that Jubilee will take legal actions against anybody found to have participated in the theft of its data.

The Saturday Nation reported that UDA Secretary-General Veronica Maina disputed Jubilee’s allegation saying her party’s register is clean.

“Those are malicious and unfounded allegations. Kindly direct those questions to the Jubilee party itself and the Registrar of Political Parties. They better have their facts right; this is wrong,” Maina said.

The allegation by Jubilee comes after many Kenyans last year protested after they found that they belonged to political parties yet they have never registered with them.

Nderitu has on various occasions defended her office saying digitization of party membership registration is going to streamline management of membership data.

“It is true there are concerns people finding themselves in the register of parties they do not have consented to. This is the reason why we are asking Kenyans to resign from those parties on e-citizen,” Nderitu said.

Since its formation, the UDA party currently has more than 5 million members according to its website. Recent opinion polls by various firms have intimated that UDA is the most popular party in the country ahead of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party led by Raila Odinga.
