Kioni is expected to battle it out with former Kieni MP Kanini Kega and Ruth Mwaniki.

“In response to a letter received from your office dated Monday, November 7, requesting the Jubilee party to present three names for the election of the 5th Kenya East Africa Legislative Assembly Members, the Jubilee party has nominated the following. Jeremiah Kioni, Kanini Kega, and Ruth Mwaniki,” Kioni said in a statement.

Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s step-sister Christina Pratt who had been shortlisted for the lucrative seat was dropped after a public uproar.

Ex-President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee party which is under the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party is required to produce one person to represent the country in the next EALA parliament.

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s ODM party will produce two while former vice president Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party will part with one representative just like Jubilee.

Raila’s Odinga daughter Winnie Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka’s son Kennedy Musyoka are also eying the seat in the next EALA parliament.

President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance received a lion’s share and will have five representatives at the Arusha-based parliament.

While Azimio is seeking to reward the seat to the dynasties, the UDA party is seeking to reward poll losers in the August 9, General Election.

Eala is the independent legislative arm of the East African Community (EAC), established under the EAC Treaty.
