The vice-chairman of the Jubilee Party has been named among the beneficiaries of the multi-billion scandal at the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority in 2020.

A report by a Parliamentary Committee revealed that David Murathe influenced the tender process of the authority to get a Ksh 4 Billion tender for a company he is associated with.

Kilig Limited, a company associated with him won a tender to supply Personal Protective Equipment to KEMSA just at the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

Before the parliamentary committee, Chen Chao, who is one of the directors of the Kilig company and Entec Technologies admitted that he knew David Murathe and also his Co-director, Willbroad Gatei.

“Murathe is a respectable high-standing member of society in Kenya and that in order to further safeguard and guarantee Entec’s receivables under the supply contract and protector investment, I requested him to be a guarantor for this transaction by being a mandatory signatory together with me in the Kilig Ltd account in Equity Bank,” the Chinese national said in a sworn affidavit.

These revelations prompted the members of the parliamentary committee to demand a physical appearance of Murathe in parliament.

This is after Murathe, in another sworn affidavit denied being a director of the two companies that supplies PPEs worth billions saying that he was only a signatory for Kilig’s bank accounts.

“Kilig and Entec companies only requested me to be a signatory to Kilig Ltd bank accounts to guarantee that Entec Technology as the supplier of the PPE kits would be paid upon completion of the procurement process and I obliged,” swore Murathe in his affidavit.

In 2020, when the KEMSA scandal was exposed Murathe, together with president Uhuru’s relative were among the notable persons to be mentioned as the beneficiaries of the tender supplies.

However, Murathe himself turned the heat on DP Ruto saying that he was an accomplice to the corrupt tender process.

“We have the legal transfers, go check the local banks and find out who the account holders of the company are; you will find that they are known partners of William Ruto,” Said Murathe on an interview with Citizen TV.
