Junet Mohamed: Jimmy Wanjigi has not paid ODM presidential nomination fee

by Nderi Caren

ODM director of elections Junet Mohammed has said that he is not aware of Jimmy Wanjigi’s presidential bid in 2022.

Speaking on JKL on Wednesday, December 8, Junet said he is only aware of Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho and his Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya who applied for the Orange Democratci Movement presidential nomination.

He indicated that it is only Joho and Oparanya who have paid the KSh 1 Million required to be nominated as a presidential aspirant under the ODM party.

“I am not aware that he (Wanjigi) is running on our party, am hearing from you for the first time. The people that I know have shown interest and paid the nomination fees are Joho and Oparanya,” the ODM director of elections said.

Junet Mohammed further detailed that the ODM elections board is considering using a consensus method to settle on their presidential flagbearer in the 2022 polls.

“The elections board is coming up with a mechanism, consensus is part of our mechanism to sort out nomination issues. So the elections board will deal with that matter, in the course of next month they will agree on the way forward,” he said.

His sentiments come after Jimmy Wanjigi hinted on ditching ODM if the party settles on Raila Odinga to be their flagbearer during the National Azimio la Umoja rally to be held on Friday, December 10.

“It will hurt my opponent more than me. There are people who are supporting my candidature and we shall chart a way forward from there,

“I believe in ODM, I like the party very much and I am hopeful that it will stand by the tenants of its constitution,” Wanjigi said.

On the other hand, Joho and Oparanya have already accepted to drop their presidential bids and support Raila Odinga.
