Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed has been missing in the public eye since IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati declared William Ruto the president-elect.
In the build-up to the August 9 General Election, Junet, a close ally of Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party captain Raila Odinga could be seen drumming up support for the former premier.
However, owing to the turn of events post-August 9 presidential elections, the lawmaker chose to keep a low profile, raising eyebrows among Kenyans, mainly supporters of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition party.
But on Tuesday, August 30, Junet, who retained his Suna East parliamentary seat in the just-ended elections surfaced online.
Junet was captured standing next to 2022 presidential election candidate Raila Odinga, former Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui and former Kieni MP Kanini Kega.
The leaders exuded confidence that the Supreme Court will invalidate the IEBC’s declaration of William Ruto as the legal fifth president-elect.
“Wahenga walisema “zito hufuatwa na jepesi’. Nimeshauriana na baadhi ya wandani wangu tukiangazia matukio hii leo. Tutasonga mbele pamoja kufanikisha matumaini ya wakenya wote,” Raila caption the picture.
Loosely translated: “The aged said, ‘The heavy is followed by the light’. I have consulted with some of my people to highlight these events today. We will move forward together to achieve the hopes of all Kenyans.”
Junet, who doubles up as Azimio la Umoja -One Kenya Coalition Secretary Junet Mohamed comfortably retained his seat despite campaigning in the area only once and for less than two hours.
Suna East returning officer Clement Osiemo declared Junet the winner after garnering 26,516 votes against his closest rival Elias Okumu of DAP-K.
This will be the third consecutive term that Junet Mohamed will serve as Suna East MP having been elected for the first time in 2013.
