Justin Mutiri warns that Raila, Ruto are only after using Mt Kenya voters

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi has warned Mt Kenya voters against voting for Deputy President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Muturi who has expressed his interests in succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta who is expected to retire in August 2022 said the two presidential front runners are after using Mt Kenya voters.

Muturi who was speaking on Thursday, January 20, said the move by the two political leaders to seek their running mate from the vote-rich Mt Kenya region clearly indicates that they are just after using the region votes to ascend to power.

“You can’t sit outside there and come around here saying you are looking for a running mate. And even then you are hovering around here without consulting local leadership,

“It is contemptuous to say that Mt Kenya region can only produce a running mate,” Muturi said.

The speaker further told a section of Mt Kenya leaders allied to the Tanga Tanga political wing to prepare for the worst.

“Na mimi nawaambia mjichunge. Yule ambaye mnatembea na yeye mchunguze, mfahamu na umuelewe vizuri kwa sababu tumeskia vile Ngirici analia na ninafikiri wako wengi njiani watakuja kulia,” Muturi said.

It is understood that the Mt Kenya region will not be fielding a serious presidential candidate for the first time since the advent of multiparty in Kenya.

The lack of a serious presidential candidate has seen the deputy president and President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner scramble for the share of the Mt Kenya region.

The two have pitched a tent in the region and are now enticing the region with some government appointments as well as rooting for their running mates from the region.

Already, Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth are being considered to be William Ruto and Raila Odinga running mates respectively.
