Kabando wa Kabando: “It’s Lie” Raila never defeated President Ruto in Nyeri

by Enock Ndayala

Former Mukurweini MP Kabando wa Kabando has dismissed a report released by an individual claiming to be an IEBC whistle-blower.

According to figures released by the whistle-blower, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party presidential candidate Raila Odinga polled 8.1 million against William Ruto’s 5.9 million votes.

The whistle-blower further revealed that there was mass rigging in the vote-rich Mt Kenya region and those counties whose governors were independent candidates including Meru.

This contradicts the official results announced by presidential returning officer Wafula Chebukati in which Ruto garnered 7.1 million votes against Raila’s 6.9 million votes.

However, in a statement on Monday, January 30, Kabando wa Kabando censured the whistleblower saying that Raila did not defeat William Ruto in his strongholds.

Kabando, who vied for Nyeri Senator on a Narc Kenya party ticket termed the whistle-blower’s report as a lie stating that Raila was badly defeated in Nyeri County.

He said that he seriously campaigned for Azimio in Nyeri County but Azimio was not sellable in the county as the majority of candidates who vied on Raila’s Azimio party lost.

“In 2022, I vigorously campaigned and voted for Raila Odinga. I also vied Senator but lost largely for being Azimio in Azimio. For IEBC whistleblower to claim Raila defeated Ruto in Nyeri is a lie,” Kabando wa Kabando said.

Earlier, Kenya’s President William Ruto had downplayed claims by the whistle-blower’s report that Raila defeated Ruto in Uasin Gishu.

“Wajinga waliisha Kenya. There is simply no possibility that Raila beat Ruto in Uasin Gishu, Nyeri, Tharaka Nithi, and Meru. Yet that is what the so-called whistleblower claims,” President Ruto said.

Raila had last week maintained that he resoundingly won the 2022 presidential election.

As such, the former Prime Minister urged William Ruto to accept that he lost and resign so that he can leave the State House for him.
