by Enock Ndayala

Former Mukurweini Member of Parliament, Kabando wa Kabando has announced that he will be vying for Nyeri Senatorial seat in the August 9, General Election.

In a statement posted on his social media pages on Thursday, January 13, the former SONU president said he reached the decision after wide consultations.

“Upon wide consultations, urgings, online and grassroots surveys, and my spirit to so serve, I offer myself to be Senator of the Great County of Nyeri,” Kabando said in a Tweet.

The seasoned politician however did not reveal which party he will use to seek the job adding that his campaign team will communicate details of his noble venture in the next 21 days.

“Kabando wa Kabando campaign will communicate details of this noble venture in 3 weeks. I pledge clean decent issues campaign,” he said.

While it is still unknown which political party Kabando will use, it is suspected that he will be vying on ODM leader Raila Odinga’s Azimio la Umoja ticket.

This is after the former legislator sensationally claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s handshake partner could easily beat Deputy President William Ruo to become Kenya’s fifth president.

“Recently privileged to meet and consult William Ruto, Mukhisa Kituyi, Reuben Kigame, and Raila Odinga. One day in politics is an eternity,

“Even (with) William Ruto’s energetic campaign, a Raila (Odinga) Presidency is increasingly becoming a possibility,” he said in a Tweet.

Kabando wa Kabando becomes the second hopeful to declare interest in unseating Nyeri Senator Ephraim Maina in the August 9, General Election.

On Wednesday, January 12, Boniface Njagi of Former Agriculture CS Mwangi Kinjuri’s The Service Party declared his bid for the Nyeri Senator’s seat.

Kabando represented Mukurweini for two terms having been elected for the first time in 2007.
